Freight train strikes car parked too close to tracks

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) – Portland Police say a parked vehicle was struck by Pan-Am Railways freight train Saturday morning.

Police said initial calls started coming in approximately 10:30A that a vehicle had been struck by a train at the crossing on Woodfords Street in Portland.

When officers arrived they found the train stopped and a red Jeep 4x4 with rear end damage.

Police say it appears the car was parked too close to the track with no one inside the vehicle.

Officials say there are no injuries.
