Former Portland Police Officer arrested for theft

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Portland Police have announced an arrest in a theft of over $158,000.

52-year-old Bruce Chase of Naples has been indicted by a Cumberland County Grand Jury. Chase served as a Portland Public Safety Officer from 1980-1982. In 1982, he became a Portland Police Officer, retiring as a sergeant in 2000.

Chase faces three counts of Class B theft, one count of Class C theft, and one count of Class D misuse of entrusted property. The crimes are alleged to have occurred between 2009 and 2014, after Chase was retired.

The victim is a family member, and Chase was managing her funds through a power of attorney.
