Police, firefighters working to pull body from abandoned well in North Anson

Crews working to recover body in well

NORTH ANSON, Maine (Morning Sentinel/Doug Harlow) — A person died Tuesday afternoon after reportedly falling into an abandoned well in North Anson. A search and rescue operation was launched just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in an area off Four Mile Square Road.

Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster said at 4 p.m. that deputies at the scene are being assisted by members of local fire departments. He said the person will be identified once rescuers recover the body, which was still in the well.
