Phone scammer impersonates Cumberland County Deputy

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Cumberland County Sheriff's office is warning the public of a new scam circulating the area.

In a Facebook post, the Sheriff's office says a caller is impersonating a Cumberland County Deputy and asking for money. They then tell them to report to the Sheriff's office.

"We NEVER ask you to pay money and then show up," they wrote in the post. "Make sure when someone that you don't know is asking you for money that you VERIFY BEFORE YOU PAY."
