ROCKLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- An Owl's Head woman is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the Rockland Class of 2018's graduation fund.
52-year-old Brenda Carty was arrested for stealing more than $8,000 from the fund, which is separate from Oceanside High School, according to officials.
The fund was started by parents of students in the class to help offset costs of graduating class events. The only signature on the account was Carty.
Subpoenaed bank records show numerous purchases and ATM withdrawals unrelated to the Class of 2018.
Police say when parents questioned Carty about the account balance, she told them there was only $4,800 in the account. Parents believed there should've been more.
According to the bank records, a total of $13,114 was deposited in the Class of 2018 account since Oct 2013.
There was a total of $4,732.92 in what is believed to be legitimate expenditures by Carty in support of the Class of 2018. There was a total of $5,930.50 in expenditures that had nothing to do with the Class of 2018 and another $2,457.71 in questionable expenditures with no receipts.
Further charges may be pending.
