Opening statements underway for Garland man accused of 2014 triple murder

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Keith Coleman has pleaded not guilty for the death of his then-girlfriend, Christina Sargeant, and her two children.

Christina Sargent's brother spoke out in court:  "It's been rough, you know she's got two boys that older boys that are still here and you know they're taking it pretty bad as you can imagine. It's really hard for me to explain the feelings we just miss them and you know they're gone" said Phillip Sargent,

Sargeant and her two children were found dead in their Garland home in December of 2014.

Court documents show that Coleman told investigators he ran after the children and strangled them after they witnessed their mothers death.

It was also later discovered that Coleman allegedly sexually assaulted Sargeant's 8-year-old daughter at the time of the killings.
