Open Winery Day introduces more to Maine's wine industry

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Wineries throughout the state were offering specials, tastings, and tours Saturday, hoping to lure in new customers.

Open Winery Day was created by the Maine Winery Guild, made up of 23 of the state's wineries.

Organizers say Maine isn't well known as a wine state, but they're hoping to change that..

The weather may not be the best for growing grapes, but there are plenty of other local ingredients used in Maine wine, like blueberries, apples, and honey.

During the summer season, many wineries are open daily offering tastings. If you'd like more information, check out
