Ogunquit Beach posts Red Flag day

OGUNQUIT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Ogunquit Police posted a Red Flag day for the beach Thursday due to the heavy surf and rip currents, which means no swimming is allowed.

Hurricane Cristobal is causing the large swells that make swimming dangerous in Maine. The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory until 11 a.m. Friday for any ocean exposed beaches. NWS said the surf height will be four to eight feet and will increase the risk of rip currents. The large waves are timing between swells can easily sweep a person into the ocean. It estimated that the timing between wavelengths will be 14 or 15 seconds, which is very long.
