NAPLES, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Summertime in Maine is never quite long enough. That's especially true for those who bank on the majority of their business between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
In the Lakes Region, water sports are a huge part of the local economy. Sun Sports has been in business for more than two decades.
"It's been hard to build a fringe seasons, we open in April but we won't see a lot of people in April and sometimes the lake is still frozen," said Sun Sports owner Harry Hewes.
"So we have to get creative because if we lose a week because of weather, we need to find a way to recoup. It really boils down to eight weeks where you make your money, I mean, this is how I support my family."
