PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Happy birthday to actress Julie Kavner! She turns 66 today.

Kavner got her big break in the 70s on the TV show "Rhoda."

But she's best known as the yellow housewife with the big blue hair, Marge Simpson.

"The Simpsons," has been on the air since 1989.

But before they had their own full-length show, "The Simpsons" appeared as shorts on another show.

Cartoonist Matt Groening created animated shorts on the show beginning in 1987. 
 
"The Simpsons" debuted on primetime with their own Christmas show in 1989. 
 
As for Marge Simpson, before Kavner gave her that unique hoarse voice, Tracey Ullman voiced the Marge prototype.
