WATERVILLE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Upon being released from the hospital, the owner of a burning mattress was promptly ushered into jail.
Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office charged 46-year-old Michael Jerrier with arson.
Jerrier lives at 17 College Ave. in Waterville. Firefighters went there late Saturday night to put out a fire in his mattress. None of the other 14 apartments in the building showed signs of damage.
Jerrier spent the rest of that night being evaluated at MaineGeneral hospital in Waterville. He was arrested Sunday morning and sent to Kennebec County Jail.
Jerrier was the subject of two previous cases handled by the Fire Marshal's office in 2016. Investigators in both instances determined that he burned himself with a cigarette lighter.
