Man killed in standoff with police in Lagrange

LAGRANGE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A state trooper shot and killed a man involved in a standoff Sunday night in Lagrange.

State Police said 49-year-old Lewis Conlogue was armed and held police at bay for approximately three hours outside of a former restaurant called "Island Farm" on Route 16. He died at the scene.

Route 16 was closed for most of Sunday evening between South Lagrange Rd. and Route 155 while officers negotiated with Conlogue.

The trooper involved in the shooting, Sgt. Scott Hamilton, has been placed on administrative leave with pay. That is standard police procedure while the incident is being investigated by the Attorney General's Office and Maine State Police.
