Man charged with manslaughter in fatal crash after leaving methadone clinic

Driver admits to texting and driving in deadly crash

BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Tyler Creighton, of Medford, is charged with manslaughter from a car crash that killed 63-year-old Robin Garden.

The head-on accident happened last Friday on Route 16, also known as Bennoch Road, in Alton.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s office says crash scene evidence shows that Creighton crossed the centerline and struck Garden’s vehicle.

Creighton told police that he was texting at the time of the crash and being a methadone user. Creighton was at a methadone clinic before the crash happened.

On Monday, Creighton made his first count appearance. He is being charged with manslaughter, driving to endanger and violation of condition of release.

Creighton was out on bail for OUI at the time of the crash. Creighton was picked up back in October.

In January, Creighton was charged in a different OUI case and pled guilty in March.
