Lewiston man pleads guilty to murder of pregnant girlfriend

LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Lewiston man has pleaded guilty to murdering his pregnant girlfriend.
Evaristo De Deus entered the guilty plea Friday in Androscoggin County Superior Court for the 2014 murder.

According to court documents De Deus and Laudrinha Kubelos dated for a few months and were having domestic problems for much of that time. Three weeks before Kubeloso was killed the two had split and barely spoke.

According to the police affidavit two witnesses told investigators they saw a blue SUV, later identified as De Deus', strike the woman, run over her and continued traveling without stopping. Both De Deus and the victim were asylum seekers from Angola.

Laudrinha Kubeloso had been in this country for only 7-months when she died. De Deus later tried to flee to Haiti before being arrested. 

De Deus could face as much as 45 years in jail. He will be sentenced in December.
