Lake Region takes precautions following Facebook post

Clown threat prompts precautions at high school

NAPLES, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Cumberland County Sheriff's Deputy was posted at Lake Region High School following a post about a clown on social media.
A parent alerted school officials about a post on Facebook and beefed-up school security.
School department officials were alerted to the post on Facebook and decided to have a police presence at the high school.
The post said clowns were coming to the school at 12:45 p.m. Thursday. Authorities say the post could be from someone using a fake account.
If students are found to be responsible they could face disciplinary action. The incident comes after a woman in Auburn chased off a clown with a gun.
That incident happened late Wednesday afternoon. The woman told police pulled up in front of her home. A clown in the back seat made a motion like she was shooting a gun.
The woman pulled out a legally carried handgun and scared off the clown.
No arrests have been made in that case.
