Game wardens recover body of Hampden man

T2 R11, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Maine Warden Service recovered the body of a man Wednesday afternoon.

Hampden resident Roland Mayhew, 60, was on a solo fishing trip and staying at the Big Eddy Campground. Police said he was making fishing daytrips both June 2 and June 3. His wife reported him missing when he didn't make contact Wednesday morning.

Game wardens started their search in areas Mayhew was visiting for fishing. Around 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, a Warden Service aircraft identified what wardens thought to be Mayhew's body in Lower Bean Pond. Ground wardens recovered his body and canoe. He did have a personal flotation device with him.

The State Medical Examiner's Office will be conducting an autopsy. Hampden Police Department assisted with this incident. Police said incident remains under investigation.
