Fryeburg man arrested for alleged kidnapping, rape

FRYEBURG, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Fryeburg police say a Fryeburg resident has been arrested on kidnapping and gross sexual assault charges.

According to police, 29-year-old Andrew Connelly, was holding an 18-year-old female victim in an apartment building on Main Street. The woman had been held against her will for several hours, police say.

Police allege Connelly also forced the victim to engage in sexual activity while holding her against her will.

The victim was transported to Bridgton Hospital for treatment, while Connelly was transported to the Oxford County Jail and is being held without bail.

"The suspect met the victim through a dating website and brought to Fryeburg only a few days ago.  The victim had no cellphone service but was able reach out to a friend on social media using the Wi-Fi on her cellphone and alert her on the situation.  Luckily, the victim's friend notified us and we were able to bring her to safety," said Chief Joshua Potvin.
