Founder of Waterfront Concerts charged with assaulting his girlfriend

UPDATE 3:45p – The state district attorney's office has amended the charge to a misdemeanor domestic violence assault, according to a release sent out by police Friday afternoon.

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — The founder of the Waterfront Concerts in Bangor has been arrested and charged with assaulting his girlfriend.

Alex Gray, 41, was arrested in Old Town, but the incident happened in Portland, according to the Portland Police Department.

It is alleged that Gray knocked the 32-year-old woman from Portland to the floor, strangled her and repeatedly struck her head on the floor. Police said was treated and released from a local hospital.

Portland Police said the assault happened at Nicholas Court last Sunday, March 12. Police said that by the time they arrived to investigate, Gray had left.

He was located by Old Town police at his home on Fourth Street and arrested. Gray was later transferred to Portland PD's custody and taken to Cumberland County Jail.

Gray was charged with aggravated domestic violence assault. He was released on bail.
