BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Hundreds of people showed up to the annual Empty Arms Remembrance Walk on Saturday at the Mount Hope Cemetery.
The one-mile walk raised money for Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Empty Arms Support Group, a program which offers support to parents who are grieving the loss of a pregnancy or an infant.
The parade of friends and families members took off at around 10 a.m. Nurses who were also impacted by the loss of a child were walking alongside those parents.
“For me, it's a chance for me to see how people are moving on from that loss," said EMMC nurse Amy Goodwin. "We see the loss when it's raw and very new, it’s nice to see families move on and have rainbow children, the child after the loss- that's a very difficult experience. It's nice to see families outside."
The event raised over $6,000 for the support program. For more information on how to donate, click here.
