Ellsworth schools closed while police search for Sunday's suspected shooter

*UPDATE: Ellsworth Police Chief Bickmore confirms all Ellsworth schools are closed Monday while police search for Sundays shooter.

ELLSWORTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — A shooter is on the loose in Ellsworth, according to police.

Authorities said around 6 p.m. Sunday, someone fired a gun at a car near the Deane Street Apartments. A rear window shattered but no one inside the vehicle was hurt.

Police said the male shooter then ran away on foot. A few hours later, he was spotted on Route 1A by an off-duty officer. That officer called for backup and K9s to search the area, but the suspect was not found.

Ellsworth PD said they believe Aaron Wagner is the culprit. They said he is wanted for reckless conduct with a firearm and aggravated criminal mischief.

Officials said the photo is from a previous arrest, and that his hair is more blonde now.

If you see him, you are asked to immediately contact police.
