Fatal fire in Bridgton

BRIDGTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- *UPDATE* A building fire in Bridgton on Friday night claimed the life of 73-year-old Randall Harmon, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.

Harmon was a resident of the Pike's Farm apartment complex on 116 High Street in Bridgton. According to officials, his body was found on the floor of his apartment where they believe he fell asleep while smoking a cigarette. Investigators also believe that the fire damage was confined to just Harmon's apartment.

"The fire department did everything they could to save the person, but it was beyond their control. And unfortunately we are dealing with a fatality," said Sgt. Joel Davis of the Maine State Fire Marshal's Office.

Seven other apartments were forced to evacuate after functioning fire alarms alerted the residents.

No other injuries were reported.
