Police arrest Saco man for trafficking EBT card

SACO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Saco Police arrested and charged a man for illegal trafficking of an Electronic Benefits Transfer card, or EBT.

An employee at Shaws Supermarket at the Saco Valley Shopping Center contacted police b

efore 4 p.m. reporting a male subject accosting customers, attempting to sell an EBT card. An undercover detective entered the store and the suspect, Donchian Murry, 21 of Saco, approached the detective. Murrary offered to sell the remaining balance on his EBT card, about $70 to the detective in exchange for fifty cents on the dollar, or $35 in cash. Officers identified themselves and took Murray into custody.

Murray was unable to post the $560 cash bail. Officers took him to the York County Jail in Alfred, Maine. He is scheduled to appear at the Biddeford District Court on May 28.
