Two children hit by truck in Waldoboro

WALDOBORO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Two children were hit by a truck in Waldoboro Friday night.

Police said the accident happened around 8 p.m. on Union Road. Twenty-four-year-old Joseph Benedix was operating the Simmons Lobster Wharf truck that hit the two boys. Benedix told police he didn't see the boys in the road until they were right in front of him.

A 14-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with a leg injury and then transferred to Portland. The other boy, a 15-year-old, was life-flighted to Lewiston with serious head injuries.

Police said neither boy was wearing a helmet. The investigation is ongoing.
