Bare shelves at Market Basket sign of support for Ex-CEO

BIDDEFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Customers and employees at Market Basket in Biddeford are standing behind former CEO Arthur T. Demoulas.

The company's board members say they fired "Artie T." last month for overspending and ignoring board directives. "We Support Artie T." signs are posted all around the supermarket and in front of bare shelves where produce is usually on display. They're empty because employees at the headquarters in Tewksbury, MA are preventing delivery trucks from entering the premises. Store Director Micum McIntire says Artie T. is well loved and cherished by all 22,000 of Market Basket's employees. Since his firing, 17 people at the top executive levels have been fired. McIntire says he's never seen anything like this in his 35 years with the company.

"We want him to come back. We hope they reinstate him," McIntire said. "There's a board meeting scheduled for Friday and we're hoping they see the light and see the best thing to do for our company is to have our leaders back."

McIntire also said customers are showing their support by not shopping at his store. He says he's okay with that, because he knows it's all for the cause.
