BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - - Glenburn School Department employee arrested and charged with possession of sexually explicit material on Friday, according to the Bangor Police Department.
Det. Sergeant Brent Beaulieu identified the man as 58-year-old Michael King who is currently employed as an Ed Tech III for the Glenburn School Department.
“There is no indication that any of Mr. King’s actions involved students from the Glenburn School System,” according to Det. Sergeant Beaulieu.
Police said the arrest was the result of a joint investigation between the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, Maine Computer Crimes Unit, and the Bangor Police Department.
According to Bangor police, the Glenburn School Department has cooperated in this investigation and has taken steps to assure the continued safety of their students.
Police said King was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and was later released on bail after paying $2,000.
The Glenburn School Department has cooperated in the investigation and said they'll continue to do so.
"We do thorough background checks with everybody through the state police, we have all of our people vetted properly, and things happen and we have to deal with them as they occur," said superintendent, Douglas Smith.
Smith could not say whether or not King will remain employed in the district however, King will not be in school on Monday.
King will go before a judge on October 12th and if convicted, faces up to five years in prison and a fine up to $5,000.
