Bangor Skatepark to be relocated

BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- After getting bounced around from location to location, a skate park may finally get a more permanent home. The current land is in the process of being sold. The skate park has been in several locations throughout the queen city for more than 10 years.

The location process for the new park has started. Tentative new locations for the new park include behind the Parks and Recreation Department, the Bangor waterfront or possibly in a park.

Tracy Willette the Parks and Recreation director said this process will be taking place over the fall and the winter. Willette said they already have met with local skaters at the end of the summer and will be meeting with them again to help with the process.

“I'll be working with the skaters to come up with a location that works for everybody as well as the process of replacing the equipment and coming up with some new designs and new concepts to hopefully last for the long term” said Willette.

Willette said that they hope to have the Skatepark up and ready for use by next summer. He said the price tag can range from about $80,000 to $100,000.
