Bangor church serves Thanksgiving Day Dinner for the first time

Volunteers prepare first ever community Thanksgiving dinner at Rock Church in Bangor.

BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Over 130 volunteers gathered at the Rock Church in Bangor on Thursday for their first ever Thanksgiving Day Dinner.

The event was sponsored by Chanelle Rose Management. Matt Sanborn and Sunshine DeMarco came up with the idea to host the dinner about a month ago and came together with Rock Church to make it a reality.

"We came up with the idea and sponsored it financially," said Matt Sanborn. "But the Rock Church made it happen."

Volunteers prepared turkey, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, pie and more. There was enough food to feed over 300 people.

"Every year we have our family together and it is something that I have always enjoyed," said volunteer Hailey Perry. "So being able to give that to other people would be very nice so I am happy that I am able to do that."

A day that is normally dedicated to giving thanks, these volunteers were happy to give back.

"It's what you should do," said Sanborn. "It is part of being a Mainer. It is a part of reaching the community and helping out and how we grew up."

The volunteers from Chanelle Rose Management and the Rock Church say that this year's dinner is not just a one time only event, they have plans to make the Thanksgiving meal an annual tradition.
