BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Look out on the road for students heading back to class on Thursday. Districts like Bangor and Brewer have their first day back. And that brings up an important message to those on the road, slow down in school zones.
This means students will be out and about both in the morning and afternoons, an important reminder to those out on the roads. Speeding in a school zone is a class E crime.
It comes with a heavy fine and could possibly end with you in jail.
That’s why both law enforcement and AAA are both reminding drivers to use extra caution on the road and to make sure to slow down for school zones and pay attention to crosswalks.
Parents should also talk with their kids about road safety.
Some useful tips include things like looking both ways before crossing the street and paying attention to signals.
