Skowhegan man charged in copper wire theft

KENNEBEC COUNTY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- After an investigation regarding copper wire thefts from several CMP Substations in Waterville and Winslow area, police charged Michael Grant of Skowhegan with Aggravated Criminal Mischief and Felony Theft.

Through the course of the investigation, Detectives were able to solve copper thefts that had occurred in not only Winslow and Waterville, but Augusta, Farmingdale, and Winsor. These thefts have been ongoing for the last several weeks and involved thousands of dollars in damage and copper wire thefts.

Oakland Police arrested Grant for a non-related incident on Probation Violation and Operating after Revocation during this investigation and he was transported to the Kennebec County Jail.

Bail has not been set at this time.
