KITTERY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- At least one Mainer is excited about it being World Sake Day -- Dan Ford, the founder and brewmaster at Maine's first sake microbrewery.
Blue Current Brewery is the Ford Family's future. When Dan lost his finance job in Boston a few years ago, he and his wife Phyllis decided brewing sake would be their next chapter. Sinking all of his retirement money and life savings into this auto shop turned brewery, Ford is excited to introduce Mainers to locally made sake.
"We have pristine conditions," Ford said. "We have wonderful water. We have awesome, awesome cold winters, which is perfect for brewing sake. I think we have a lot of people that enjoy sake around here and want to have home-brewed sake from Maine."
Ford hopes to be up and running by Christmas or New Year's, but he needs your help. Ford says, their glass is half full right now with a little more than $17,500 at 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, but that's still a ways off from their goal of $33,000.
Blue Current Brewery has less than two weeks to reach its goal or it won't get any of the money pledged so far. Click here to support their fundraising efforts.
