U.S.M. President Dave Flanagan

The University of Southern Maine is a school in trouble.

Enrollment is down.

So is financial support from the state.

As a result, the school faces a deficit in the coming year expected to be more than twelve million dollars.

Everyone agrees U.S.M. needs to make significant changes, and the man who's been tapped to lead the way is David Flanagan, the new interim president of the school.

David Flanagan is well known in Maine business and government -- he's been everything from chief legal counsel to the governor to CEO of Central Maine Power.
