Fire destroys home in Boothbay

*UPDATE 10/9 7:45p: The Public Safety Department released the names of those involved in Sunday morning's fire in Boothbay.

Baldomero Zamora, 50, and Lucas Farias, 23, were the two men who died, according to McCausland.

Julie Gilbert, 48, was identified as the woman who jumped from the second-floor window and is now being treated for injuries at Maine Med. A nursing supervisor at the hospital said she was in satisfactory condition.

Gilbert is the mother of Farias and girlfriend of Zamora.

All first-floor occupants were treated and released, according to McCausland: Alexandra King, 26, of Winslow, along with her two children — daughter Harley, 8, and son River, 4.

The home was rented, according to McCausland, for a belated 50th birthday for Zamora. Several friends had a attended a birthday party at the home earlier in the evening.

*UPDATE 10/9 7p: Fire marshal investigators said the fire started in the first-floor living room, but the cause is still unknown.

According to state Dept. of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, the two men sleeping on the second floor died as they apparently were trying to escape. Both were found near windows in separate bedrooms.

Investigators said one woman from one of those bedrooms escaped by jumping from a window. They said she is being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Another woman and her two children sleeping on the first floor escaped with minor injuries.

Investigators said the home had been rented for the weekend to celebrate a birthday.

*UPDATE: Officials say most of the occupants were out of the house when they arrived, but flames were too intense for them to go inside upon arrival. Fire investigations Sgt. Joel Davis says they are working to determine the cause of fire. The identities of victims won't be released until family, who is out of state, is notified.
