Stand-up paddleboarding, known as SUP, is a great way to get in shape during the summer months. Not to mention an all around great excuse to get out on the water. But what happens when you combine stand-up paddleboarding with yoga? The answer...a power house workout that may just be one of the best around. SUP yoga is your definition of a full body workout not only working every muscle of your body while you are stabilizing on a board that is constantly moving on the water, but it's also great for your mind and your soul. In order to stay balanced you have to breathe and relax. Forced relaxation? Yes please!
Allyson Nye of Greener Postures tells us that SUP yoga gives people the chance to get in touch with their adventurous side. Being on the water makes the yoga experience a little more relaxed and lighthearted. It's not about having perfect posture or the fancy moves. Falling in the water...it happens. So Allyson suggests just jumping in right out of the gate. She also let me in on a secret. Look up to help stay balanced while moving on the board. It works!
