Having trouble getting in all your fruits and vegetables? Why not try getting all your nutrition in with a juice or a smoothie. On this Fit at Five we take a look at the benefits of drinking these colorful concoctions.
Bruce Raymond of Whole Foods tells us that by drinking juice you are giving your whole digestive system a rest, because you are not digesting all the insoluble fiber. By juicing you are actually taking fresh produce and removing the fiber making it easier for your body to take in all the nutrients. When you don't remove the fiber your drink is then considered a smoothie. It's still good for you, but it just takes your body more work to digest the fiber.
Variety is key when make a juice or a smoothie, and you can get creative. Whole foods shared with us some of their favorite combinations:
The Hidden Treasure Smoothie
Strawberries, blueberries, yogurt, orange juice, and kale
The Crankin' C Smoothie
