  • Getting in your workouts can sometimes feel like a full time job. What if being in shape was your job? On this Fit at Five we check out how the professional athletes workout as we crash a workout session with the Portland Pirates.

Tim Guillerault of the OA Performance Center works with the players with the off ice workouts. Turns out that off season is when the players do most of their intense training. Off ice in season training focuses more on maintenance. Think about the explosive movements and impact these players experience on the ice. They need to make sure that their bodies can handle that.

Avoiding injury is also a big focus. While on the ice hockey players are mostly in a flexed forward position. To work on that much of their gym time is focused on hip strength, stability, and mobility.

For a schedule of upcoming Portland Pirates games we have provided their link. We have also provided a link to the OA Performance Center.
