  • Taking part in a sport is a good way to get outside, be social, and to get fit. Why not learn how to play football? Even if you are a woman. On this Fit at Five, we meet a group of women learning the rules of the game and meeting their fitness goals at the same time!

The Maine Rebel are one tough group of girls, but don't be intimidated. These girls quickly showed me that playing football is all about having fun while kicking some butt out on the field. The Rebels, now in their ninth season, still have many rookie's joining in on all the action. Coach Mindy Gilliam tells us she loves being able to teach these girls the game, and seeing them improve through the season.

These ladies have been meeting twice a week since January for two hour practices. These workouts are tough incorporating constant running, squats, and of course tackling. They are also a great way to relieve stress. You can catch the Rebel's home games at Fitzpatrick Stadium. A portion of the proceeds of their June 2nd home game will be donated to the wounded worrier fund, and all military personnel and family get in free that day. We have provided a link to the Maine Rebels Website for more information on their 2012 schedule.
