PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) -- A constant theme throughout Susan Collins' campaign has been Tom Allen's voting attendance record.

TV ads hammer the democratic challenger for missing more than 150-votes during his 12-years in congress. The ads struck a nerve with Allen.

During our NewsCenter debate last week he called on Collins to pull the ads, saying he missed those votes to be home when his parents were dying and when his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Tuesday, Tom and Diana Allen held a news conference at their Portland home to denounce the ads.

"When she's had an operation, when she's had chemotherapy and radiation, there were times I had to be with her and yet Susan Collins is running petty, ugly and personal attacks that suggest on those occasions I should have been down in Washington" said Allen.

Collins says she stand by the ads. "We know for example that Tom missed 19 votes to attend a Hollywood fundraiser. That he missed votes to go to sunny Florida on an all expense paid trip to give a speech to a pharmaceutical group. We know that he missed 42 votes when he was in Washington, not back here at home with Diana" said Collins.

With a week to go before the election she says she has no intention of pulling the ads.
