Route 202 accident kills one, sends two to hospital

NORTH MONMOUTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A two-car crash killed one person and sent two others to the hospital Thursday morning on Route 202.

Joan Fortier, of Mount Vernon, was the passenger in a 2006 Hyundai Elantra driven by Gene Potter, also of Mount Vernon. The Elantra was traveling westbound on Route 202 when it collided with a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer SUV traveling in the eastbound lane. The mountaineer was driven by Alyssa Marcellino of Winthrop. 

Fortier died at the scene. Potter and Marcellino were taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical center in Lewiston. Both drivers have non-life threatening injuries.

The crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. on Route 202 in front of Hall's Collision Center.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the collision.
