BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- We have just the tip to cure your winter blues. It comes in the form of donating your time to someone in need.

Representatives said VolunteerMaine.org is a one stop internet resource for volunteers and program staff. Organization officials can create accounts to recruit volunteers for service opportunities. And Mainers can enter their zip code and the website will populate the screen with volunteering availabilities.

For 14 years, Bonnie Puls has donated hundreds of hours of her time to the Ronald McDonald House.

"I think people want to give back. They want things to be better than they were and I think that is the purpose of volunteering. You want to make things better. And if you can by doing a small amount in one place it's going to make that place a little bit brighter for somebody else."

Officials explained organizations and are in need of extra hands and loving hearts. For example, Literacy Volunteers of Bangor which provides free tutoring support to adults with low levels of literacy need more tutors. After 45 years of existing, they have reached their all time high in the number of students asking for assistance. They are hoping more locals will soon join their cause.
