Snow broke out across our region Thursday morning and really picked up in the afternoon coming down quite heavily. I expect the snow to gradually change to sleet and possibly freezing rain for awhile overnight then go back to snow by Friday morning. Most locations should wind up with 8-12 inches when all is said and done with slightly lower amounts near the coast. The storm responsible for this is expected to be located near Portland by Friday morning. From there it will track off to the northeast with the snow winding down by mid day. A brief lull in the action can be expected Friday night with another storm system in the cards for Saturday. One low will be located near Lake Ontario Saturday morning with a second low developing southeast of New Jersey. Right now the models are tracking the secondary low far enough out to sea so as to only allow for some light snowfall here. This will need to be watched however since the track could change and come closer. Once this storm moves away we can look forward to a couple of sunny but cold days Sunday and Monday. Another low pressure system will bring more snow or mixed precipitation Monday night into Tuesday with warmer weather for the remainder of the week.
