(NEWS CNETER) -- There were two small earthquakes today. One in Mexico, Maine and one in Canada which was felt in the Northeast.
Maine quake: 0.8-2.0 magnitude struck at 11:15pm ET on Thursday, 2/6. No reports of it being felt. Centered about 15km northwest of Mexico, Maine (within 10 km of that point).
Quebec quake: 2.5-2.8 magnitude struck at 10:45am ET on Friday, 2/7. Felt in northern parts of VT, according to usgs.gov. Centered about 56km south of Montreal.
*Reason for differences in magnitude measurements is because there are two different equations being used to plot the intensity on a scale. The Nuttli magnitude (Mn number) is better at measuring smaller magnitude quakes, whereas the Coda magnitude (Mc number) tends to flatten out at readings between 1.7 and 2.0 (in otherwords, there seems to be a "bottom limit" of 1.7-2.0 using the Coda magnitude).
