Sanford's Scott, Oak Hill's Washburn win Gaziano awards

AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Oak Hill's Luke Washburn and Sanford's Jed Scott stellar play on the line of scrimmage during their senior seasons helped their teams to playoff runs and also won the state's top prize for their positions:  the Gaziano Award.

Washburn won the defenisve honor while Scott took home the trophy on offense at the fourth annual event. 

The Raiders standout was linchpin for Oak Hill defense en route to the Class 'D' championship.  Cheverus' Greg Grinnell and Skowhegan's Ethan Liberty were runners-up for the defensive award. 

Scott led the way for the Spartans power-rushing attack, including a regional quarterfinal upset at South Portland.  Colin Richards of Mount Blue and Jacob Fogel of Portland were the the other two finalists on offense.

Each of the winners recieved a $5,000 scholarship for the top prize.  The four runners-up earned a $1,000 scholarship.
