FALMOUTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER)- Before the sun came up this morning, icy roads had caused 5 vehicles to collide on the Maine Turnpike.

According to State Police, a tractor-trailer truck slid and jack-knifed at Mile 55 Southboud on the Maine Turnpike, causing a chain-reaction of crashes. That tractor-trailer truck collided with a passenger car and then three more tractor-trailers were approaching -- two of them rolled over while trying to avoid the crash.

Maine State Troopers  shut down the southbound section of the Turnpike South of Exit 63.

All 5 motorists were taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
