BRUNSWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- An animal shelter is getting some much-needed repairs for free, thanks to a Portland construction company.
The Coastal Humane Society has been raising money to build a new adoption center. In the meantime, volunteers and staff have been working in an outdated facility, with a leaky roof, poor insulation, and inefficient storage. Hardypond Construction found out about the repairs that were needed and offered to help. The staff of twenty-four workers and their families are spending two days donating time and materials to get the job done.
"In many ways it is a Band-Aid, but it's an important Band-Aid, as were raising money for our new building," Coastal Humane Society Executive Director Karen Stimpson said. "We have to provide the best shelter we possibly can for our animals, and Hardypond Construction is ensuring that for us in these two days,"
Hardypond is donating about thirty thousand dollars in labor and materials. Several other area businesses have also come forward to donate additional services and supplies.
