WEST GARDINER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- With tens of thousands in Kennebec County still in the dark, families in the hardest hit areas are preparing for a Christmas without power.
The Four Corners Store lost power overnight Monday. Tuesday morning, they worked to get a generator going with the help of a few customers. The employees are juggling having no power in their homes and at work. They knew it was important to make power at the store a priority, because so many people in the community were counting on them.
"At least get coffee going and gas pumps going so people can get milk and water and coffee and gas to keep their generators going" Billie Jo Staszewski said.
People at the store Tuesday afternoon said the majority of the West Gardiner was without power.
