Power outages drop under 10,000

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Most utility customers in Maine are expected to have their lights on by week's end, but there are pockets where it could take longer. A Bangor Hydro Electric spokeswoman says it could be New Year's Day before the lights are on for everyone in Hancock County.

Of Bangor Hydro's 5,685 customers without power at 4:00pm Friday, more than 4,400 were in Hancock County. 

Central Maine Power Co. was reporting 3,613 outages Friday afternoon. The majority of CMP's outages are in Kennebec County.

An ice storm set off the outages on Sunday.  At the height of the disruption, more than 105,000 customers were blacked out.
