SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Families have a new place to take a break from shopping at the Maine Mall.

The Maine Mall partnered with the Portland Jetport and Kids Crooked House to build a "Playport," in the mall. It's a play area modeled after the Jetport, where kids can learn about aviation while running around and burning some energy. Kids Crooked House built a similar play area at the Jetport, so that families could get come play time in before long flights. Maine Mall spokesperson Stefanie Millette says when the mall found out about that project, they immediately jumped on board.

"The families are coming in and they've got the strollers with kids and they're doing their shopping and they've got errands and everything, and they have a place where they can sit, sip their tea, watch their kids, know that it's fenced in, have a good time," Millette said. "It's perfect."

The play area is a permanent fixture at the mall, so it will be sticking around after the holidays.
