PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Coast Guard is asking for help from any boaters in the Casco Bay area who may have seen a boat in distress late Saturday afternoon.

The Coast Guard received a distress call at 4:40pm saying, "Coast Guard, Coast Guard."  Crews are seeking any additional information about the call and possible distress.

Their equipment traced the call to a position in Casco Bay, about one mile east of Jewell Island.  However, immediately after receiving the call, 2 47-foot Motor Life Boats were launched from Coast Guard Station South Portland and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, and yet, no signs of distress were found.

The Coast Guard says the weather conditions are poor with four foot seas, and visibility ranging from dense fog to two miles at best, so they're asking anyone with any additional information on this distress call to contact them at 207-767-0302.
