WINDHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Check this out, a battery-powered radio that you physically crank to recharge the battery.
The RadioShack® Emergency AM/FM/WX Crank Radio runs on AA-batteries that can be recharged by turning the handle. A USB input allows you charge other devices as well. It costs $29.99.
In addition to that, there are mobile phone chargers, vehicle chargers for mobile phones to stay connected. Battery-powered televisions will pick up local television when cable and internet is down with the power.
During the Ice Storm of '98, Radio Shack in Windham lost power and stayed open. The timing of this weekend's ice storm draws some concern.
"With this storm and with Christmas time, sorta like a double whammy," says Neil Esposito. "During these ice storms we sell out of every battery and every battery-powered device that we have." He says battery sales were up on Friday. The store shelves look bare but batteries scattered throughout the store are expected to meet the demand.
