GORHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- It's not just the athletes that are getting ready for the Olympics in Sochi next year. An athletic trainer from Maine is making the trip with the U.S. team, too.

Ben Towne, who teaches at the University of Southern Maine, starts his trip east one week from Friday, as the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton team takes part in the World Cup in Europe. Towne, who has to get through finals week with his students here in Maine first, has been working with the U-S team for about 6 years. This will be his first Olympics. Just like the athletes, the trainers compete for positions.

Towne said, "I got a phone call at 9 o'clock at night from the team physician, and he said, 'Ben, pack your bags. You're going to Sochi!' It was really surreal. I didn't know how to react. I was actually subdued because it didn't seem real."

The Olympic Games start February 7th.
